AMS response to the Next Generation Researchers Initiative

In response to a request from the US National Academy of Sciences, the Academy produced a paper providing a UK snapshot of efforts by the research community to aid the transition to independent research careers for biomedical researchers. The Academy's paper was published in May 2018.

The developing brain in health and disease: a scientific meeting

The Academy of Medical Sciences is convening a novel scientific meeting on the developing brain over two days, 19 -20 March 2019.

Controlled Human Infection Model studies

The Academy of Medical Sciences, Wellcome, and the Human Infection Challenge vaccine network convened a one-day workshop on how to develop the environment for Controlled Human Infection Model studies in the UK. The report of the workshop was published in July 2018.

Joint UK-Japan symposium on medical imaging and artificial intelligence

This one-day symposium was jointly organised by the Academy of Medical Sciences and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).

International Health Lecture 2017

Dr Samuel Myers delivered the 2017 Academy of Medical Sciences and The Lancet International Health Lecture under the title 'Planetary health: Protecting global health on a rapidly changing planet'.

Horizon Scanning

In 2017-18, the Academy undertook a horizon scanning project to identify key areas of scientific research and innovation for the future.

Early intervention and diagnosis in paediatric neurodevelopment defects in Brazil

The Academy of Medical Sciences and the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and Medicine  convened a policy workshop in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on the 29-30th November 2017 on neurodevelopmental defects in children in Brazil.

Patient data and data-driven technologies in healthcare

The Academy has developed principles to guide the future use of data-driven technologies in healthcare, based on a series of dialogue workshops with patients, the public and healthcare professionals, followed by a wider policy workshop and stakeholder engagement.

Unmet need in healthcare funding allocations

The Academy of Medical Sciences, supported by the British Academy and NHS England have undertaken some policy work on unmet need in healthcare, aimed at informing NHS England’s review of its funding allocations formulae.
