Addressing the challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic in Low-and Middle-Income Countries

The Academy of Medical Sciences in collaboration with 7 Academies and organisations from LMICs hosted a virtual workshop to consider the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and response in on 15– 18 June 2020. COVID-19 preclinical drug discovery and development

In winter 2021, the Academy is calling for new project submissions to our COVID-19 preclinical drug development database. We are mapping ongoing and emerging COVID-19 preclinical drug development research to help researchers and funders identify opportunities for collaboration, avoid duplication of effort and prioritise the most promising research.

The Brazilian National Academy of Medicine and AMS publish joint statement on COVID-19

Following the virtual meeting jointly hosted by the Brazilian National Academy of Medicine and the UK Academy of Medical Sciences to share learning from tackling the COVID-19 pandemic on the 16 April, the two Academy's have published a joint statement on COVID-19.

Immunology and COVID-19

The Academy and the British Society for Immunology (BSI) have rapidly convened an expert group to collate what is currently known about the immunology of COVID-19 and develop Immunology research priorities in response to the coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19).

The Academy and MQ have endorsed the mental health and neuroscience research priorities in response to the coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19) that were developed by an expert group convened by the two organisations.

Understanding the context of health coverage in Nigeria and progress towards effective Universal Health Coverage

The Academy of Medical Sciences and the Nigerian Academy of Science convened a virtual policy workshop on achieving Universal Health Coverage in Nigeria on 2-3 September 2020. The Academy of Medical Sciences and the Academia Nacional de Medicina of Argentina held a policy workshop on Achieving Universal Health Coverage in Latin America: the role of quality of care research online on the 6-7 October.
