Strengthening health services research

Report of a workshop held with the NHS Confederation about Strengthening Health Services Research. The meeting looked both outward at the environment for health services research and inwards at the interface between the Academy and the NHS Confederation.

Status: Completed

Capacity building in clinical research alone will not be sufficient to improve the UK's population health and healthcare system. The availability and application of high quality health services research, together with population health sciences research, will be of equal importance in ensuring that the unprecedented additional investment in health delivers an improving national system.

In September 2005 the Academy of Medical Sciences and NHS Confederation held a joint meeting about Strengthening Health Services Research. The meeting looked both outward at the environment for health services research and inwards at the interface between the Academy and the NHS Confederation.
