NHS England's draft Research and Development Strategy

In 2014, the Academy submitted a response to the consultation on NHS England's draft Research and Development strategy

Status: Completed

In response to its statutory responsibility to promote research, NHS England developed a draft Research and Development Strategy. The strategy lays out the vision, aims and six key objectives for successful delivery, and was released on Thursday 12th December for a seven week consultation period with stakeholders and citizens.

The Academy provided feedback on the draft strategy. The vision of the draft – to promote research and innovation – was welcomed by the Academy, but it was felt that greater emphasis could have been placed on how NHS England would deliver this vision across the whole of NHS. Our feedback called for further details on the ‘outputs and impacts’, in order to make clear exactly what changes the community could expect. The identification of metrics against which to assess delivery of the strategy, and further details on the roles and responsibilities of respective partner organisations, were also discussed as areas which could improve with further development.
