Following circulation to local Fellows over the summer of a call for interest in the Regional Champion roles becoming vacant at the end of the year, we are now pleased to announce the appointment of the next representative for Scotland and also the appointment of the Academy’s first dedicated Champion for Northern Ireland:
- Professor Timothy Aitman FMedSci (University of Edinburgh) will take over from Professor Mandy MacLean as Champion for Scotland
- Professor Danny McAuley FMedSci (Queen's University, Belfast) will become the Academy’s first Champion for Northern Ireland. This area was previously included in the remit of Professor Dame Nicky Cullum, who continues as Champion for the North West - and we are delighted now to formally extend the scheme to this remaining region of the UK.
Appointments to replace Professor Phil Baker (for the Midlands) and Professor Ashley Blom (for the South West) will be confirmed later in the autumn. We sincerely thank those Champions completing their terms of office at this year's AGM and we look forward to working with our incoming and existing regional representatives as we continue to promote and encourage the Academy’s engagement with researchers and networks across the UK.
Tim and Danny will start their tenure after the Academy’s AGM in December and will each serve a three year term of office. We look forward to hearing their ideas to help us increase the Academy’s reach.
