Exploring a new social contract for medical innovation

The Academy has launched a new workstream, Chaired by the President, to consider the elements of a new social contract to realise the benefits of 4P medicine – predictive, pre-emptive, personalised and participatory.

It will examine perceptions of risk and value by individuals (e.g. citizens, patients and professionals) and systems/organisations (e.g. payers and providers) as they relate to the challenges and opportunities presented by 4P medicine, and how these might be addressed by society (e.g. through regulation and professional standards).

We are holding a one-day scoping workshop in June to initiate the project. Attendees will include key stakeholders from medical innovation, as well as academics from economics, social science and the humanities. The scoping workshop will be co-hosted with the British Academy.
