Scotland regional event: AMaSing careers

12.00, Thursday 06 June 2019

University of Strathclyde Glasgow

Stenhouse Wing Strathclyde Business School, 199 Cathedral Street

We are delighted to invite Scottish Fellows and early career researchers to come together in Glasgow for an afternoon of networking and discussion.

Hosted by Regional Champion Professor Mandy MacLean MBE FRSE FMedSci, this is a chance for people starting out or thinking about how to develop their career to connect with and learn from local Academy Fellows, some of the best researchers living and working in Scotland today.

Academy current and former grant holders, alongside members of Academy staff, will be talking about the possibilities and opportunities open to early and mid career researchers in Scotland. There will be an overview of Academy careers support from Helen Jones, Careers Programme Manager, and talks about how to build a career from Academy grant awardees, mentees and programme members now at a range of different career stages. Together, they will share their advice on what went well, what didn't, and what the Academy can do for you.

There will also be a discussion on what is needed for early career researchers in Scotland today, hosted by Helen Jones, Careers Programme Manager. This will be a chance to share common issues and challenges, and help the Academy understand where to focus its attention for careers support and policy in the coming years.

For Fellows, there will also be an hour of discussion at the end of the day with Professor Philippa Saunders FRSE FMedSci. Professor Saunders is an Academy Council member, Academy Registrar and Director of Postgraduate Research for the Centre for Inflammation Research at the University of Edinburgh. This discussion will provide a forum for Scottish Fellows to meet and share thoughts and ideas for opportunities and challenges unique to the region.

This event is free and open to all. Please book in advance to allow us to estimate catering numbers.

This event is baby-friendly and there is a nursing room available on site.
