Dr Bex Caygill is an experienced leader who has worked in science communications roles for more than a decade, including in Parliament, research and healthcare communications consultancies and higher education institutions.

With a strong scientific background in biochemistry and a PhD in virology and nanotechnology, Bex moved into communications after working as a scientific adviser for the UK Parliament.

During her career, she has worked for communications consultancies Campus PR and Instinctif Partners, where she won a gold CIPR PRide award for best healthcare campaign and global in-house awards for Best PR Campaign, Best Design Project and Best Impact on a Client’s Business. 

Prior to joining the Academy in 2022, she was Head of Media Relations at UCL where she led a talented team of professionals in telling stories of UCL’s positive impact to a global audience through integrated and considered communications. She also worked on corporate communications and reputation management for the institution, advising senior leaders on crisis communications and incident responses, and delivered in-house media training programmes.
