Triennial review of the research councils

The Academy responded to the triennial review of the research councils, which is considering structures for the delivery of the public funding of research.

Status: Completed

The triennial review of the research councils is considering structures for the delivery of the public funding of research.  The Academy responded to the review with a letter sent following a telephone call on 21 March 2013 between the President and Mr Ceri Smith who led the review.

The Academy believes the research councils make a major contribution to the UK’s status as a leading research nation. The letter identifies the need for a long-term investment framework for research that will provide clarity about Government’s expectations of the research councils, while respecting the Haldane principle.
