In July 2010, the Academy produced a briefing at the request of the Minister of State for Universities and Science, David Willetts MP, which outlined the health and wealth benefits of investing in biomedical research.

The paper lays out the relationship between public sector investment in medical research and its impact on wealth and health. If sustained, the UK’s increasingly coordinated approach to this scientific arena - delivered through public sector, charitable and commercial partners - is likely to continue to deliver economic benefits.
