The Prime Minister has announced the publication of the Green Paper Building our Industrial Strategy, a consultation paper inviting submissions a to help government shape the upcoming Industrial Strategy.
Professor Sir Robert Lechler PMedSci, commenting on the Green Paper, said:
"We welcome the emphasis that the Prime Minister has placed on developing and exploiting the exceptional research we do in this country as a way of driving the economy.
"We need a forward-looking strategy that builds capacity and capability, flexible enough to make the most of future challenges and innovations beyond Brexit and into the long-term.
"For the life sciences, it is now more important than ever that our scientific excellence is preserved. We must support the NHS in its role as a hub for research and as a driver of innovation in healthcare by investing in research clusters that involve the NHS, industry and universities.
"Fiscal incentives will be essential, but equally crucial will be maintaining and developing the workforce behind such excellence, by addressing skill gaps and ensuring a flow of talent into the UK."
