Following the vote in Parliament to reject the Prime Minister’s Withdrawal Agreement, Professor Sir Robert Lechler PMedSci, President of the Academy of Medical Sciences said:
“Parliament has rejected the Prime Minister’s deal again.
“In the coming days MPs will have the opportunity to influence what happens next.
“I must continue to emphasise in the strongest possible terms that leaving the EU without a deal would be an extremely poor outcome for biomedical research, jeopardising the future health of patients and the public.
“A no deal Brexit would erect barriers to working together and clinical trials; it would seriously undermine our ability to attract and retain talented researchers and would mean losing access to up to half a billion pounds a year in funding.”
