Council election 2020 - call for nominations

Nominations sought for Fellows to serve on the Academy's Council

The Academy Council plays a pivotal role across all our work and a healthy, modern Academy relies upon our governing body to fully represent the breadth of the Fellowship, reflecting our broad mix of basic, clinical and population-based medical sciences, but also the full diversity of our Fellowship as it relates to geographical location, gender and ethnicity.

Council members due to stand down in December after completing their three year term of office are: Professor Dame Jessica Corner FMedSci; Professor Hilary Critchley FRSE FMedSci and Professor Julie Williams CBE FMedSci.

Three new members of Council will be appointed through this year's election.  All Ordinary Fellows of the Academy are eligible to stand for election to Council except where - should they have previously served on Council - at least one calendar year must have passed since they ceased to hold office.  The President’s Call for Nominations circular to Fellows, further guidance notes and a nomination form can be downloaded from this page.

The composition of Council depends on Fellows who either stand for election themselves or who encourage and support other nominations. We can only elect Fellows named on the ballot and it is therefore crucial that we secure a wide selection of nominations as a starting point.  Those wishing to informally discuss the role of Council member and how the Academy’s Council operates more broadly are encouraged to contact our Executive Director, Simon Denegri  at simon.denegri@acmedsci.ac.uk.

Completed nomination forms should be returned to the Executive Director c/o Alison Rojo at alison.rojo@acmedsci.ac.uk.
Nominations must be received no later than 17:00 on Monday 14 September..

We are delighted to announce that this year’s election will be held in digital format for the first time. In early October, voting packs - including a list of this year’s candidates, log-in codes and instructions for voting - will be emailled to all Fellows by our election provider Civica Election Services. Voting will close on Monday 9 November and the ballot will be counted on Tuesday 10 November. Results will be  announced to the Fellowship at the Annual Fellows Meeting in December.
