Call for nominations: next Academy President

Professor Dame Anne Johnson DBE PMedSci will be stepping down as Academy President in the Spring of 2024 and we are seeking nominations to identify her successor to this key Academy role.

The continuing success of the Academy will depend critically on the appointment of a President who can build on the achievements of Dame Anne and her predecessors, and take forward the Academy’s strategic objectives as laid out in our 10-year vision and strategy ‘Making medical science work for everyone’.

The successful candidate will need to be an exceptional strategic leader who understands the changing environment in which the Academy is operating and can inspire credibility with colleagues, at the most senior levels of Government, and with our partner organisations. As the public face of the Academy in the media and with an increasingly diverse range of audiences, they will need to be an excellent communicator and inclusive leader.

The nominations stage for the appointment to this important role is now open.
A letter from the Acting President, full role description and nomination form are available on this page.

The Academy is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion. Suggestions and expressions of interest are welcome from any area of the Fellowship and should be sent, in confidence, to Acting Academy President, Professor Paul Stewart ([email protected]), or to the Executive Director, Simon Denegri ([email protected]).

Fellows wishing to discuss the role informally are invited to contact Professor Stewart at the earliest opportunity.

The deadline for receipt of completed nominations is 17.00 on Friday 9 February 2024.
Council will elect the next President at a specially convened meeting in March.
