At Admissions Day on 28 June, we welcomed 40 of this year’s newly elected Fellows for their formal admission to the Academy during a ceremony held at the Royal Institute of British Architects.
We were also joined by four Fellows from the 2016 and 2015 election cycles who were unable to attend events for their respective cohorts. The afternoon included presentations on current research work from four of this year's new Fellows:
From bugs, DNA and zebrafish to the patient in your clinic
Professor Andrew Biankin FMedSci, University of Glasgow
Autism and talent
Professor Francesca Happé FBA FMedSci, King's College London
Sickle cell disease: a neglected non-communicable disease of growing international importance
Professor Thomas Williams FMedSci, Imperial College London
Neurodegeneration: from molecules to medicines
Professor Giovanna Mallucci FMedSci, University of Cambridge
Earlier in the day, our newest additions to the Fellowship attended induction sessions about the Academy's work and role and also participated in a mentoring workshop facilitated by Professor Fiona Karet FMedSci. The day concluded with Fellows, guests and Academy staff enjoying a celebratory supper at the Academy's headquarters building in Portland Place.
Video from the day including the new Fellows’ presentations will be available on the Academy website later in the summer.
