Academy responds to Tier 1 Visa boost

Responding to the Government’s announcement that it will expand the number of research fellowships eligible for accelerated entry under the UK’s Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa route, Professor Sir Robert Lechler, President of the Academy of Medical Sciences, said:

“This is a positive move by the Government to change the current restrictive visa system so that it is easier to bring talented researchers from overseas into the UK.  Biomedical research and innovation is one of the UK’s great strengths, a strength that is driven by bringing great minds together from across the globe.

I am delighted that the Home Office have listened to our suggestions of additional Fellowships to be eligible for Tier 1 visas. This is an important first step in making the UK a place where local and global talent connects to bring great ideas alive ."
