This joint event will bring together Fellows and networks of the Academy of Medical Sciences and the Royal Society of Edinburgh for a day of conversation and collaboration.

The Academy of Medical Sciences together with The Royal Society of Edinburgh are jointly hosting sessions to hear more about evidence-based decision making in Scotland, the media, and how to support transdisciplinary and cross sector working.

The event will be attended by Professor Dame Anne Johnson PMedSci, President of The Academy of Medical Sciences and Professor Sir John Ball FRS FRSE, President of The Royal Society Edinburgh.

We are pleased to confirm Professor Dame Anna Dominiczak FMedSci FRSE, Scotland’s Chief Scientist for Health, will be speaking at the session on evidence-based decision making in Scotland.

Health of the public approach: Working across disciplines & sectors
Join us for thought-provoking discussions on how those across disciplines and sectors can harness transdisciplinary research capacity to improve the health of the public.

This panel will be chaired by the Academy’s President, Professor Dame Anne Johnson DBE PMedSci, and we will be joined by:

  • Ms Karen Anderson FRSE, Visiting Professor at Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and the Built Environment
  • Professor Mary Renfrew OBE FRSE FMedSci, Professor of Mother and Infant Health
  • Professor Linda Bauld OBE FRSE, Professor of Public Health and Chief Social Policy Adviser to the Scottish Government
  • Professor Vittal Katikireddi, NRS Senior Clinical Research Fellow and an honorary Consultant in Public Health at NHS Health Scotland

This session will be chaired by Professor Niamh Nic Daeid FRSE, Director of the Leverhulme Research Centre for Forensic Science at the University of Dundee, Scotland. Speakers are:
  • Professor Dame Anna Dominiczak FMedSci FRSE, Scotland’s Chief Scientist for Health
  • Professor Mathew Williams, Scotland's Chief Scientific Adviser (CSA) Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture
