Joint workshop on the design of the next European Union research and innovation framework programme

08.30, Tuesday 20 February 2024

We collaborated with the Federation of European Academies of Medicine (FEAM) to co-deliver a workshop on the design of the next European Union research and innovation (R&I) framework programme. It will be the successor of Horizon Europe, running from 2028 to 2035.

The workshop aimed to:

  • bring together perspectives from across European countries on the content, design and topics of the next EU Framework programme for R&I, with a view of the needs of health and biomedical research across Europe.
  • identify key topics and actions that can enhance collaboration between academics from countries, represented at FEAM, that can feed into the design of the next European Union framework programme.
  • collate evidence from members to influence the design of the next European Union framework programme through individual academies in their respective countries and by FEAM in Brussels.

18 out of 22 FEAM member academies attended the event, representing national perspectives on the current framework programme. They discussed their ideas, proposals, and suggestions for the design of its successor. Cluster 1 (Health) and collaborative calls on topics related to biomedical research was the focus of the workshop.

For more information about the activity or if you are interested in contributing to the Academy's engagement with European Union framework programmes, please do get in touch with Valentina.
