On 8 December 2015, the Academy, in partnership with NHS England, held a small roundtable discussion chaired by Professor Sir John Tooke FMedSci, to explore exemplar clinical pathways for a stratified approach to diabetes in the NHS.
Participants included academia, clinicians, commissioners, health economics experts and industry amongst others, and the meeting addressed different aspects of the clinical pathways for stratification of diabetes including alignment of the diagnostics and therapeutics pathways, the commissioning and funding framework for diagnostics, health economics, raising awareness and building capacity and capability.
The meeting focused on exemplar clinical pathways for different types of monogenic diabetes including maturity onset diabetes of the young (MODY), neonatal diabetes and gestational diabetes.
