The Academy and the Association for the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) are hosting a workshop to discuss ways to improve integration across the preclinical and clinical boundary.

This workshop will convene senior representatives from across academia, industry and the NHS, as well as funders, regulatory bodies and commissioners, among others, to discuss the challenges to, and opportunities for, better integrating preclinical and clinical research. The workshop will examine the scope for improving the two-way evidence exchange across this boundary to better inform preclinical and clinical research, including in the context of the research and healthcare infrastructure, workforce and skills and the research and development pathway. The workshop will be co-chaired by Professor Geraint Rees FMedSci, Dean of the UCL Faculty of Life Sciences , University College London and Dr Chris Powell, Vice President, Translational Medicine & Comparative Pathobiology, GlaxoSmithKline. A summary report of the meeting will be published following the workshop.

This meeting will take place on 9 March 2018, and is by invitation only. For further details please contact forum@acmedsci.ac.uk.
