Royal Fellows

Council may recommend any member of the Royal Family of the United Kingdom for election as a Fellow.

Nominations are included as motions at an Annual or Extraordinary General Meeting of the Academy, to be approved by the Fellowship.

The Academy is proud to currently have one Royal Fellow, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal. The first Royal Fellow of the Academy, Her Royal Highness was admitted to the Fellowship in November 2013 in recognition of her dedication to the advancement of healthcare and the engagement of patients and the public in medical research.

The Princess first became involved with the Academy when she officially opened our headquarters at 41 Portland Place in 2011. In February 2015, Her Royal Highness attended the Spring Meeting for Clinical Academics in Training (now known as CATAC). Here she met early career clinical researchers as they came together at our annual meeting, to present their work and develop their networks with peers and senior academics.
