Steve Bates is CEO of the BioIndustry Association where he has played a significant leadership role in UK life science ecosystem over the last decade. Steve’s unique contribution to medical science includes his tireless efforts as an advocate, policy maker and for which he is widely respected by decision makers not just in the UK but across the globe. By focusing on the translation of medical research into benefits for society he has enabled barriers between academia and industry to be more porous. He has a strong commitment to ensuring communication of research, especially industrially financed research is appropriately communicated and transparent. He has been highly effective in realising cross-disciplinary opportunities across academia, industry and healthcare including organising the crowdsourcing platform for COVID -19 diagnostics.
