Kent Woods is Chief Executive of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency. Prior to this he was Director of the NHS Health Technology Assessment Programme. These roles followed a distinguished career in academic clinical pharmacology including important randomized trials of intravenous magnesium in acute myocardial infarction. At the MHRA he has been instrumental in the promotion of public health and developed its impressive communications capability. He has also been responsible for implementing information technology systems that provide effective internal management and also handle regulatory submissions and drug and medical device safety issues. At an international level, Kent Woods has played a key role in establishing a new enlarged consortium of Heads of European Medicines Regulatory Agencies, and ensuring that UK occupies a central and influential role in the new organisation.
