Professor of Genetic Epidemiology at King’s College London, Tim Spector has made many major contributions to the genetics of common, complex disorders and traits. Key to his research strategy has been setting up the world renowned Twins UK Registry, which he has used to carry out genome-wide association studies and identify many susceptibility genes for common disorders such as osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, Vitamin D deficiency, melanoma and age at menopause. He has a strong record of working with both industry and the NHS and an outstanding track record in public dissemination of genetic science, including the BBC1 TV documentary, the Secret Life of Twins, and contributions to Horizon, Radio 4, and national newspapers.
