Philip McGuire is Professor of Psychiatry and Cognitive Neuroscience at King’s College London. He is a leading clinician-scientist investigating the issue of brain abnormalities preceding, leading to and soon after the onset of schizophrenia. His earliest contributions related to identifying the structural and functional correlates of hallucinations using brain imaging. Thereafter he turned his attention to applying imaging techniques to studying the prodrome and onset of schizophrenia – his group were one of the very first to identify brain abnormalities in the ‘prodrome’ of schizophrenia before the full fledged clinical manifestation of psychosis.
