Professor John Martin is British Heart Foundation Professor of Cardiovascular Science at University College London. He has made important contributions to the medical sciences on the role of platelets as risk factors for myocardial infarction, and on the pathophysiology of arterial disease. His recent work has focused on vascular endothelial growth factor and he has provided evidence that this may play a role in the protection of the vessel wall in response to inflammation, damage or hypoxia.
