Giovanna Mallucci is Professor of Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Cambridge. She is an internationally acclaimed leader in the field of neurodegeneration, renowned for her pioneering, paradigm-shifting research on pathogenic mechanisms of protein-misfolding diseases and for her translational vision for new therapeutic strategies. She has made fundamental contributions to the rapidly growing field of protein-misfolding disorders and modulation of proteostasis. Her innovative approach is evidenced by her discovery, using the paradigm of structural synaptic plasticity in hibernation, of a new family of proteins, which can be manipulated for neuroprotection. The translational potential of Professor Mallucci’s work for treatment of dementia makes her one of the outstanding contributors to medical science worldwide.
