Sidney Truelove Professor of Gastroenterology at the University of Oxford, Fiona Powrie is an outstanding immunologist who has made a number of important contributions to the field. Her work has provided fundamental new insights into host microbial interactions in the intestine and how these break down in inflammatory bowel disease. Her insights into T cell mediated immune regulation have led to new areas of research and novel therapeutic strategies to promote regulatory T cell responses in chronic inflammatory diseases. Fiona is the Director of clinical gastroenterology at Oxford and the Translational Gastroenterology Unit which she established is a flourishing centre for research and training in academic gastroenterology.
