Ervin Fodor, Professor of Virology at the University of Oxford, is an internationally renowned expert on influenza virus. He made an outstanding advance in medical sciences by inventing a method for generating fully recombinant influenza virus. This work was crucial for development of live-attenuated influenza vaccines that have been widely used, both in the US and the UK, where they are targeted at children. Professor Fodor has made seminal contributions to uncovering the fundamental molecular mechanisms of the life cycle of influenza virus. His efforts have led to improvements in anti-viral therapies that have significantly reduced morbidity in millions of people.
