Elizabeth Miller is Head of the Immunisation Department at the HPA. Her mastery of epidemiological method combined with detailed understanding of such aspects of infection as microbiology, immunology and mathematical modelling has resulted in world recognition as a leader in her field. Her advice has led to changes in vaccination policy including the introduction of meningococcal C conjugate vaccines in Africa. More recently she has conducted studies on the efficacy of recent H1N1 pandemic influenza vaccines. She played a key role in her scientific research on the safety of MMR vaccines confounding the persistent attacks by the anti-vaccination lobby.
