Clive Ballard is Professor of Age Related Disease at King’s College London and is an international leader in translational neuroscience research, making major contributions to national policies. His work highlighting the risks of antipsychotics in people with dementia has had a major international impact on clinical practice and policy, and made a substantial contribution to the 50% reduction in antipsychotic drug use in people with dementia in the UK. Other key clinical trials have highlighted the central importance and benefits of improved pain management in people with dementia, the first large RCT in people with Down’s syndrome dementia and a landmark RCT of a novel treatment for psychosis in people with Parkinson’s disease.
