Azra Ghani is Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at Imperial College London. Her research has transformed our understanding of the role and effectiveness of malaria control strategies which combine interventions and has thus been crucial to the development of current global roadmaps for malaria burden reduction and elimination. The translational impact of her work is exceptional in infectious disease modelling and her research underpins the World Health Organisation’s new Global Technical Strategy and is informing the Global Fund strategy development for malaria. Professor Ghani has made major and near-simultaneous contributions to both scientific understanding and public health policy.
