Alan Knox is Professor of Respiratory Medicine and Director of the Nottingham Respiratory Biomedical Research Unit. His research has focused on understanding synthetic pathways in airway smooth muscle, unravelling the underlying regulatory mechanisms and determining their relevance to airway inflammation and remodelling in asthma. His group has identified new targets that could be modified by drugs to reduce pro-inflammatory mediator release. Alan’s work has helped change the perception of airway smooth muscle so that its synthetic function is now seen as being more important than its bronchoconstrictor actions.
