Professor of Tropical Paediatric Infectious Disease at Imperial College London, Kathryn Maitland is a global health research leader who has made an outstanding contribution to emergency care in sub-Saharan Africa. Over the last 15 years, she has spearheaded pioneering clinical investigative research and has conducted large-scale pragmatic clinical trials in resource-limited hospitals. The most notable achievement was the FEAST trial, the largest trial of critically ill children ever undertaken in Africa, which has led to major changes in health policy in a number of African countries and for organisations such as Medicines Sans Frontieres.
