David Hunter, Richard Doll Professor in Epidemiology and Medicine at the University of Oxford, has consistently shaped the scientific agenda in several fields beginning with work on heterosexual transmission of HIV in East Africa. His work on the environmental causes of breast cancer in the US established a life course approach to the study of breast cancer causation. At the Harvard School of Public Health, he led the creation of free MOOCs in public health which have had world-wide impact. In the UK he has led the scientific agenda that has resulted in the creation of the Early Detection of Disease Research Platform UK with the goal of recruiting 5 Million adults into a longitudinal research platform.
