UK Clinical Research Collaboration

The Academy is represented on the UKCRC, which brings together major stakeholders that influence clinical research in the UK

Status: Ongoing

As of August 2024, the Academy manages the Secretariat for the UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKRC).

The UKRC brings together major stakeholders that influence clinical research in the UK to provide a strategic approach to the identification of opportunities and obstacles to clinical research and their resolution. The Partnership includes the main UK research funding bodies, academia, the NHS, regulatory bodies, industry and patients.

It aims to re-engineer the clinical research environment through addressing:

  • Research infrastructure
  • Workforce training
  • Regulation and governance
  • Research coordination
  • Patients and public

The UKCRC Board is chaired by Professor Lucy Chappell FMedSci and Professor Ian Young, and includes representatives from all of the UKCRC Partner organisations. The Academy is represented on the Board by Professor Rosalind Smyth CBE FMedSci.

Membership of this Collaboration contributes to a number of our strategic commitments and links closely to the recommendations in our Future-Proofing UK Health Research report.
