In 2013, the four UK National Academies submitted joint evidence to the Government Review of the Balance of Competencies between the UK and the EU.
This review was commissioned by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills, and examined the balance of competencies between the EU and UK in the area of research and development. The Academies jointly set out the significant benefits of the EU for UK research, including access to funding, amplified opportunities for collaboration, and the increased reputation and competitiveness of the UK as a place to undertake research.
This inquiry produced a report detailing its findings in 2014.
