  • Enabled partners in countries eligible for UK Official Development Assistance, primarily other national academies, to consider how scientific evidence can help address key global health challenges.

  • Built in-country capacity for tailored, local, impactful scientific policy.

To know that you are not alone with the challenges and barriers that you are facing in your region of the world and think about solutions together. It’s possible that collaborations that develop from the workshop can help in addressing these challenges on a broader scale.” Dr Chima Ariel Onoka, University Of Nigeria (2019 Universal Health Care workshop steering committee)

“I have learnt how to address country problems at a global forum, how to interrelate country problems with regional counterparts, how to synthesize the common and unique problems, and how to develop solutions that address unique problems of the country. These events have had an excellent impact on my career, leadership, and networking... my approach to crucial health topics has broadened and as a result I am more focused on delivering results-oriented projects.” Dr Suraj Bhattarai, a doctor trained in Nepal and the USA, and member of the Global Young Academy

The Academy also used the Global Challenges Research Fund to support global health networking grants.
