Professor James Naismith FRS FMedSci will complete his four-year term as the Academy's Vice President (Non-Clinical) in December. The Academy is now inviting nominations for his successor to this key Academy role.
The Academy Council will elect the next Vice President (Non-Clinical) at its June meeting to enable handover of the role to the successful candidate from the early autumn. The next Vice President (Non-Clinical) will formally take office at this year’s AGM on Thursday 3 December 2026.

The deadline for receipt of completed nominations is 17.00 BST on Tuesday 5 May 2026.
Eligibility and process
- The role is open to Ordinary Fellows of the Academy
- Nominations may be made by any Academy Fellow for any other Academy Fellow, providing that they have agreed to be nominated
- Self-nomination is acceptable
- The nomination must be signed by three supporting Fellows. Electronic signatures are accepted.
- Candidates are asked to countersign the nomination form to indicate their willingness to be nominated and to include a 300-word statement outlining their background and how they would contribute to the Academy and its future
- A copy of the candidate’s CV must be submitted with the nomination form
- Nominations must be submitted to Professor Andrew Morris CBE FRSE PMedSci at [email protected] by 17.00 on Tuesday 5 May 2026
- Interviews, by a panel of Nominations Committee, will take place in early to mid-June (exact date to be confirmed)
