'Building your career in a research team' will be chaired by Professor Stephen Holgate CBE FMedSci, MRC Clinical Professor of Immunopharmacology at the University of Southampton. Our keynote speaker will be Professor Philippa Saunders FMedSci, Chair of Reproductive Steroids & Director of Postgraduate Research, University of Edinburgh. Professor Saunders was on the reference group for the Academy's 2016 'Team Science' policy report.
Two years ago, the Academy of Medical Sciences published a report on 'Team Science’; output-focused research involving two or more research groups. The report highlighted the increase in popularity and success of team science, as researchers seek to solve global challenges to realise economic and societal benefits, whilst also highlighting some of the challenges faced. One of the main challenges was the recognition of scientists as the numbers of authors on papers continues to rise. Professor Saunders will talking about her research career and offering tips for those working in teams to get 'CRediT where credit’s due.'
The event will also include:
-
'My MedSciLife' - hear more about ‘the person behind the research’ and their strategies for managing an academic career.
-
A Storytelling workshop to learn fundamental skills that can be applied when communicating your research to different audiences.
-
