New Fellows Admission Day 2016

On 29 June, we were delighted to welcome to the Academy 41 of this year’s 47 newly elected Fellows during a ceremony held at the Hallam Conference Centre.

After the ceremony itself, Fellows and key colleagues listened  to research presentations from four of this year's new Fellows:

`Understanding post traumatic stress disorder' by Professor Chris Brewin

`Cellular biological scaffolds for functional tissue repair and replacement’ by Professor Eileen Ingham;

`Six million deaths at birth: where, why and how to have happier birth days’ by Professor Joy Lawn

`Curing cancer: surgery and biology’ by Professor John Primrose.

We were also joined, for their formal admission to the Academy, by four of the Fellows elected in 2015 who were unable to attend last year's ceremony. Earlier in the day, new Fellows attended introductory sessions about the Academy's role and work and also a workshop on mentoring, facilitated by Professor Fiona Karet.

Film footage from the Admissions ceremony and the new Fellows presentations will be available on the Academy website later in the month.

The day concluded with Fellows, their guests and Academy staff enjoying a celebratory barbecue supper at the Academy's headquarters building in Portland Place.
