In February 2025 the Academy of Medical Sciences and Thailand Science Research and Innovation are hosting a three-day career development workshop for Southeast Asian early-mid career researchers with an interest in health. The workshop is being developed by a steering committee of regionally based experts, co-chaired by Associate Professor Nor Azian Abdul Murad and Professor Guy Thwaites FMedSci. Approximately 75 participants will come from Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Cambodia and Laos.

The workshop aims to support early-career health-focused researchers with up to 10 years of research experience in advancing their careers. Participants will engage in a practical and interactive program focused on grant writing, pitching for funding and community engagement, all delivered by experts working across Southeast Asia. The workshop will also feature talks from inspiring speakers, presentations by accomplished senior researchers and funders, and networking opportunities to facilitate relationship building. This workshop is funded by the UK Government's Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.

The workshop will support participants to:

  • Establish new connections and expand their professional networks, including building connections with each other, International Academies, and others
  • Exchange learnings and best practices, fostering peer support networks and promoting potential collaborations
  • Gain valuable knowledge and skills to benefit their research and careers

This workshop is now closed for applications. If you would like to know more, please contact [email protected]
