Submission to the Parliamentary inquiry on 'Leaving the EU'

The Academy has submitted evidence to the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee inquiry into 'Leaving the EU', as well as an inquiry by the Scottish Parliament into this same topic.

Status:

In August 2016, the Academy submitted evidence to the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee to inform its inquiry into 'Leaving the EU: implications and opportunities for science and research' and well as an inquiry by the Scottish Parliament on 'The EU referendum and its implications for Scotland'.

Our submission drew on the expertise of our Fellowship and noted a range of urgent, and more long-term, concerns around four key aspects of a post-Brexit research base in the UK:

  • Mobility of researchers
  • Ability to collaborate across borders
  • Funding for research
  • Regulations governing research

The submission builds on our ongoing engagement around the implications of Brexit for research, and the place of research and innovation in a future vision for the UK.
