This week, the Framework Programme 10 on Research and Innovation, Horizon Europe (2028 - 2034) was published by the European Commission.
Professor Tom Solomon CBE FMedSci, Vice President (International) at the Academy of Medical Sciences, said: “Framework Programme 10 (FP10) represents the research investment Europe needs to lead global research and innovation, and the Academy of Medical Sciences stands firmly behind this ambition. The proposed €175bn budget is a commitment that could accelerate medical research, demonstrating Europe’s determination to tackle the greatest health challenges globally. The focus on openness, excellence and reducing bureaucracy remains essential – these priorities are fundamental to creating a more progressive research sector that delivers for patients and researchers alike.
“Success depends on protecting the principles that make European research funding so powerful: scientific independence, simplified access and robust international collaboration. As the UK continues its engagement with Horizon Europe, FP10 represents a vital opportunity to strengthen the research partnerships that maintain our position at the forefront of curiosity-driven research and scientific discovery."
