Academy announces five year vision to improve health through research

The growing global burden of non-communicable disease and the escalating cost of healthcare and of drug development in economically challenging times have been identified by the UK Academy of Medical Sciences as key challenges to tackle in the next 5 years.

A new strategy for the Academy, launched today, also highlights the unprecedented opportunities currently available to help tackle these challenges such as the stratification of disease, closer relationships between academia, industry and the NHS, and a growing recognition of the value of interdisciplinary and international collaborations.
