Following careful consideration of government advice on the evolving coronavirus epidemic this event will not go ahead as planned. Please check back soon for more information.

The Academy's Clinical Academics in Training Annual Conference (CATAC) is a unique cross-specialty event designed to bring clinical academics together to present their work, meet one another and network with other researchers. Non-clinical researchers are also encouraged to attend and support clinical colleagues.

We are excited to announce that our keynote speakers this year are Dr Charlotte Summers, Honorary Consultant in Critical Care Medicine at the University of Cambridge, and Chief Scientific Officer of Exvastat Limited, as well as one of our FLIER participants;  and Professor Robert MacLaren FMedSci, Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Oxford, a Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeon, and a Fellow of the Academy. This year the event is being hosted by Professor John Iredale FRSE FMedSci, Pro Vice-Chancellor at the University of Bristol and Chair of REF 2021 Main Panel A, with Professor Jane Norman FMedSci, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, chairing the competitions.

CATAC is a great opportunity for you to:

  • Hear presentations on cutting edge clinical research
  • Meet with clinicians and academics to build networks
  • Raise your profile within the research community
  • Meet Academy Fellows, world leading experts in their research fields

The day includes a varied programme, combining research presentations, networking opportunities, discussion sessions and fascinating keynote lectures. There are three competitions for researchers who hold a medical, dental or veterinary undergraduate degree:

  • A poster competition for all clinical academics
  • A Pre-Doctoral Plenary Competition
  • A Post-Doctoral Plenary Competition

All are welcome to attend. The event is free, but registration is mandatory unless you have already submitted an abstract for one of the competitions. Please ensure you complete the second page of the booking form to secure your place.

Please let us know if there are any other requirements that would facilitate your attendance. We will have a nursing room and a prayer room available. You can find out more about the venue and its accessibility here
