Spotlight on our policy projects and priorities

Autumn will be a busy time for Academy policy activities.

In September we will publish our report on the Health of the Public 2040, and we will be launching a new working group on multiple morbidities following our successful scoping roundtable on this subject. Our major workstream on 'How we can all best use evidence to judge the potential benefits and harms of medicines?' is progressing well, and Council will be considering the final report from this project in December. We have four FORUM events before Christmas on topics including ageing, health economics for stratified medicine and the regulation and governance of health research (a follow up to our 2011 report), and we are also continuing to follow up our influential report on ‘Team science’.

Through the new Global Challenges Research Fund, we will be holding workshops with partners in low and middle income countries later in the year – on the topics of multiple morbidity in South Africa and rapid diagnostic tests in global settings. These activities run alongside our work to support a sustainable science and innovation base in the context of the EU referendum result, including a recent joint Academies statement, the Government reshuffle and the Higher Education and Research Bill
