Sebastien Ourselin is Head of School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences at King’s College London. He has made fundamental contributions to healthcare engineering research. He has made major advances to imaging sciences, focusing on brain diseases and the robust translation of image analysis pipelines into clinical settings. These techniques are now recognised by regulators and widely used globally in major multi-centre studies and clinical trials concerning a wide range of neurogenerative diseases. His research has contributed across clinical disciplines, from the development of a commercialised surgical simulator for practicing colonoscopy to the creation of innovative surgical interventions in utero for treating spina bifida. He is a leading advocate for healthcare engineering in the UK and globally, leading the data science team of the COVID Symptom Study app, influencing the UK’s pandemic response.
