Wendy Barclay is Action Medical Research Professor of Virology at Imperial College London. Her research career has been directed towards identifying molecular mechanisms of influenza host restriction and developing effective experimental systems for studying this key property of the virus. Her leading role in virology has resulted in her expertise being widely sought on advisory boards including those of the Roslin and Pirbright Institutes, the UK New and Emerging Respiratory Virus threats panel, and the DEFRA exotic disease group. She has recently completed her 3-year term as the first woman to lead the Microbiology Society virus group.
