Hugh Markus is Professor of Stroke Medicine at University of Cambridge. An academic clinician with an international reputation in stroke research, his work has provided key advances in the understanding of stroke mechanisms, which have important therapeutic implications. He has established, and led, major international co-consortia, which have transformed our understanding of the genetics of stroke. Professor Markus has chaired the UK Stroke Forum, which brings together all bodies representing stroke within the UK and has played a major role in both delivery of stroke research in England via leadership roles within the NIHR Stroke Research network, and also in transforming clinical stroke services particularly delivery of services within London.
